Thanks for your interest in joining our Spiritual Care team. Good Samaritan Medical Center is currently accepting applications for our Chaplain - per diem, on-call position. We ask our Chaplain - per diem, on-call to be available for scheduling Sunday through Saturday nights from 6p - 8am, including weekends and holidays on an as needed basis. The Chaplain - per diem, on-call may also provide coverage for days shifts - including Sunday mornings during non-denominational worship - when opportunities arise. The Spiritual Care team will be able to schedule most on-call shifts in advance; however, instances may arise that require staffing with limited notice.

Description
The primary duty of our Chaplain - per diem, on-call is to provide spiritual care and support to patients, their families, and hospital staff. The Chaplain - per diem, on-call will have experience with potentially traumatic events, various hospital codes, end of life care, and other emergency situations in a fast-paced hospital (or comparable) setting. We are seeking a compassionate individual that's able to connect with individuals and guide them through emotionally challenging times. We're also looking for someone that's able to work independently and manage a dynamic workload consisting of patients receiving care in various units at a large medical center.
Some of the basic competencies we're looking for include:
The ability to respond to pages at night - and on weekends and holidays as needed - and to be on-site within 15 minutes.
The ability to communicate with the Spiritual Care team regarding the outcome of the on-call shift and any outstanding patient/family needs.
The ability to respond to all critical calls and triage cases appropriately.
The ability to manage a dynamic stream of referrals from various sources (physicians, nurses, clinical staff, administration, etc.), and to address each case compassionately and calmly.
The ability to assess each situation on a case-by-case basis to determine the amount of time to spend with the patient or family during a critical event.
Qualifications
Required
Master's degree in Divinity, Theology, Ministry or related field.
Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Three to five years experience as a chaplain in a critical care or hospital setting (or equivalent).
Certification from a professional chaplaincy organization within 2 years of hire. Organizations may include: NACC, NAJC, CPSP, APC, SCA.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in bereavement or related field.
Skills in assessing and responding to critical health events.
Assessment, worship, and teaching skills.
Palliative care and/or hospice training and experience.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
