40 a year General Summary The Crime Analyst is a position of significant administrative and professional responsibility, involving critical thinking to study data to help reduce crime in the community.
Additionally, this role is instrumental in delivering timely and relevant information regarding crime patterns and trends, contributing to the strategic planning and resource deployment for preventing criminal activity.
The Crime Analyst supports investigations, increased apprehensions, and contributes to the successful closure and prosecution of cases.

Utilize statistical methods and software to analyze crime trends, patterns, and hotspots; Use various technologies and computer databases to manipulate, analyze and/or present data.
Collects, collates, interprets, and analyzes data within the City of Lafayette from various sources to support law enforcement efforts in preventing and solving criminal activities.
Creates and publishes reports or bulletins to identify trends, patterns, and changes in criminal activity; and for tactical, strategic, and administrative analysis; Generate statistical summary reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Identifies correlations and relationships within the data to assist in the development of crime prevention strategies.
Create and maintain geospatial maps illustrating crime patterns and concentrations.
Provide law enforcement with visual representations of crime data to aid in resources allocation and deployment.
Monitor and analyze long-term crime trends to identify emerging patterns and potential areas of concern.
Collaborate with law enforcement personnel to understand the context behind crime fluctuations.
Performs review of incident reports, field interviews, and investigative supplements to assess and determine the presence of any criminal patterns or trends, identify suspects in unsolved crimes, identify suspects or addresses that are reoccurring problems, and then communicate that information to the patrol and investigative divisions.
Use social media to send information regarding public information to include assistance locating suspects, vehicles, and other investigative information.
Use social media to research suspect information and investigative leads.
Creates timelines, flow charts, and link analysis to assist in solving investigations or to assist in analyzing intelligence information.
Plan, design, and implement a crime analysis and information systems program; evaluate and recommend computer software and hardware needs.
Builds and maintains an up-to-date and comprehensive database of crime-related information.
Develop and maintain procedures to retrieve, integrate, and analyze data from a large variety of sources and systems.
Assist in research and analysis of legal requirements regarding crime analysis.
Coordinates with outside law enforcement agencies to facilitate the exchange of crime trend information and to identify and solve cross-jurisdictional crimes.
Develops and maintains a strong working relationship with department officers, department support personnel, and department supervisory staff.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees, government officials, and the community.
Ability to present ideas, data, and reports clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing to employees, the community, administrators, and other interested parties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications KNOWLEDGE:
Comprehensive knowledge of tactical, strategic, and administrative crime analysis.
Laws, ordinances, codes, regulations, and rules regarding collecting crime information.
Law enforcement operations and procedures.
Office operations including filing, bookkeeping and record keeping; purchasing procedures; knowledge of the principles and practices of law enforcement and law enforcement equipment.
Familiarity with computers to include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other software.
SKILL:
Demonstrated skill in preparing written reports, using computers and crime analyst software.
Manipulate data obtained from different databases and complete projects in a timely manner; and operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
ABILITY:
Communicate effectively orally and in writing; maintain clear, concise, and complete records; interact effectively with others.
Ability to handle detail work, maintaining a high level of accuracy and thoroughness of records.
Use of a wide variety of software.
Collect, process, and compare collected data from police databases.

TRAINING/EDUCATION:
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in criminology, statistics, computer science, information systems, social or behavioral sciences, or related field or equivalent work experience; and two (2) years of law enforcement related, research related, or analysis related work experience or equivalent education.
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Graduation from a four (4) year accredited college or university with a degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
Experience working in a Police Department conducting statistical research, analysis on crime and intelligence, or a combination of experience, education, and training.
Special Requirements Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Class R driver's license with a safe driving record.
Ability to pass and maintain a thorough background investigation, including criminal history and credit history.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
